  • ​Responsible for managing software development for the Inflight Entertainment and Connectivity systems (IFEC) systems (IFEC) and may lead other projects involving on-aircraft systems/technology. This job also supports American’s Inflight Entertainment (IFE) and Inflight Connectivity (IFC) core team members and external suppliers to define, implement and support IFEC projects through system definition and requirements, testing, implementation, performance analysis, steady-state and reporting for IFE systems.
What you'll do
  • Serves as project manager responsible for managing the software development for the Inflight Entertainment and Connectivity systems (IFEC) and may lead other projects involving on-aircraft systems/technology
  • Partners with functional groups within the Technical Operations organization, external suppliers, and other AA departments to communicate and clarify business needs, to contribute to the development of long-range system plans, and to ensure products and services are aligned with business needs
  • Tasks may include developing business cases for technology projects, defining new business processes, identifying customer requirements, managing project schedules, maintaining action items/risks/issues logs, managing project budgets and forecasts, developing, reviewing and executing test plans and schedules, executing tracking, working with web developers and UI/UX specialists, and documenting the development and results of these plans, and performing periodic auditing of system logs
  • May act as business coordinator for any aspect of applications development implementation, including project management, software, hardware, network, data management, security issues, and vendor selection
  • Daily review of system performance metrics, root cause analysis and problem resolution
  • Maintains current knowledge of emerging technologies/industry trends and applies them to project activities
  • Supports team manager and performs some leadership duties when manager is absent or out of office
  • Works with the team manager to lead IFC project initiatives and provide guidance to junior team members
  • Writes requirements and test plans and executes test cases
  • Ability to travel in cycles that will range between 20% to 70%
  • Must fulfill FAA criminal background checks to qualify for unescorted access privileges to airport security identification display areas (SIDA)
  • Must be able to secure appropriate airport authority and/or US Customs security badges

Minimum Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Management Information Systems or equivalent experience/training
  • 3-5 years of project management experience, managing medium to large projects

Preferred Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience

  • Software development experience
  • Programming skills, including intermediate to expert knowledge:
    • Tableau
    • Virtual Basic
    • Python
    • SQL
  • 10+ years of project management experience, preferably in software applications development
  • ​5+ years as a Business Analyst and/or Quality Assurance Analyst
    • Certified Scrum Master or PMP (Project Management Professional)
    • Expert knowledge of HP Quality Center or an equivalent Applications Development Lifecycle Tool and/or Quality Assurance tool
    • Good understanding of enterprise business processes
    • Knowledge of business unit functions and cross-group relationships
    • Working knowledge of relational database systems, Object Oriented Programming and web application development
    • Knowledge of Inflight Entertainment systems

  • Ability to write requirements and test plans and executing test cases
  • Expert knowledge with MS Office applications including Outlook, Lync, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, and Project
  • Strong analytical skills with a strong aptitude for problem solving and attention to detail
  • Self-starter that requires minimal supervision
